For over twenty years Mark has provided me with carpentry and joinery of real quality for my homes.

His range is wide, and he brings the same care and attention to detail to every item he makes, whether it be a Victorian sash window, an oak dining table, a Windsor chair or a range of kitchen and bathroom cabinets.

Proud by name and by nature, he is reliable and trustworthy, and his professionalism, patience, and a “people-first” attitude combine to provide excellent customer service, going the "extra mile" to exceed - rather than just meet - expectations.

Good work is not cheap, but he is always prepared to discuss and price a variety of options to meet a budget. In short, I can thoroughly recommend him.

I have known Mark Proud for over 25 and he has carried out joinery and carpentry works for me when I was a Church and Cathedral Architect.

Works he has done for me include:

Internal Screen to the Tower archway at St Mary’s Church, Brampton.

Screens to the west end of Nassington Church

At Peterborough Cathedral:

Joinery to the Main Entrance Porch doors.

Following the Fire New Cupboards behind the Choir Stalls.

New Organ Loft.

Central Tower high level window frames (Fire Precautions).

Bishop’s Chair and six carvers.

War Memorial Bookcase.

In all these works, both joinery and carpentry, he has carried out high class work to the highest standard, often having a constructive input at the setting out stage. His understanding of wood, how it performs in different situations and the way joints work is very extensive and difficult to find better.

All the work he carried out for me he has performed very well so much so that I have used him at home to replace doors. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his work for any woodworking job. Emeritus Canon Julian Limentani

Mark is, without doubt, by far the finest craftsman in wood that we have ever employed to undertake woodwork on our behalf in our listed building.

He is a master carpenter and joiner and can even undertake marquetry restoration of antique veneers. Over the years he has completed everything from making a beautiful period door in hardwood, to making window seats, to restoring and renovating floor boards and wood panelling.

We have been amazed by the quality of his work and his willingness to go the extra mile to finsish a task to schedule.

He is charming, and polite and a clean worker who always cleans up after he has finished. We cannot recommend him too highly.

St Thomas Becket Church - Greatford. New toilet unit and kitchen servery.

The PCC wished to install a new lavatory and kitchen servery. All the woodwork was undertaken by Mark Proud, and completed in 2022.

The specification was to mirror as closely as possible the 19C oak chancel screen, in particular the linen fold panelling and the gothic arch detail.

The resulting cabinet work by Mark Proud is of exceptional quality, copying the detail of the linen fold within the gothic panelling, all in well-chosen quality oak.

The PCC is very grateful for the effort and time Mark has put into this project; we found that he was a very friendly presence in the church for all the time that he worked around us.

We note that there have been visitors to the church who have been surprised that the unit containing the toilet is brand new.

We can recommend Mark to undertake any job or project that demands work of the highest quality.
